Highbury Tennis Club was launched in 2012 to encourage competitive play at Highbury Fields - owned and managed by Islington Council. We are a friendly and welcoming club with five women's, three men’s and two mixed doubles teams. Our age range is 20 to over seventy - we don't coach children and we don't instruct complete beginners.
The teams play competitively in Middlesex leagues e.g. the Middlesex Summer League, the Winter Floodlit League and various Middlesex Veterans' Mixed Doubles leagues. These competitions provide a focus for development and are great fun as we compete against a range of clubs around north London. The club also runs its own highly popular Doubles League for members.
If you’re interested in joining the club, you will be invited to an assessment session and we'll then try to find a regular training session for you ranging from “Rusty Racquets” - for those returning after a long break - to coached sessions with one of our teams, see below for typical days and times.
Members of squads must be prepared to represent the club in Middlesex matches on weekday evenings around north London, starting at 6.30pm; typically a player might compete 7 or 8 times a year.
Every player contributes to the cost of courts and coaching at each session.
