Highbury Tennis Club was launched in 2012 to encourage competitive play at Islington Council's Highbury Fields courts. We are a friendly and welcoming club with five women's, three men’s and two mixed doubles teams. Our age range is 20 to over seventy - we don't coach children and we don't instruct complete beginners.
The teams play competitively in Middlesex leagues e.g. the Middlesex Summer League, the Winter Floodlit League and various Middlesex Veterans' Mixed Doubles leagues. These competitions provide a focus for development and are great fun as we compete against lots of clubs around north London. The club also runs a hugely popular Doubles League for women members & there's mixed doubles league too.
If you’re interested in joining the club, please apply for an assessment session so we can identify a regular session that's right for you. Most club members are in a team with regular practice/coached sessions but we also cater for those returning after a break: our “Returners & Improvers” are coached on Monday mornings and many such players progress to being in a squad. Please see below for days and times of typical sessions.
Members of squads must be available to play in Middlesex matches on weekday evenings around north London, starting at 6.30pm; typically a player might compete 7 or 8 times a year.
Every player shares the cost of courts and coaching at each session.
